Hacker news story:
http://thehackernews.com/2015/01/iDict-icloud-password-hacking-tool.html
It looks like the hacker “Pr0x13” has released a password hacking tool at GitHub that allows hackers to break into any iCloud account – thus giving them access to iPhone user account data.
Tool is called iDict: https://github.com/Pr0x13/iDict/
GitHub is a repository of software development projects by various programmers around the world.
On the Other hand(OTOH) – I wonder if The Hacker News read he readme:
I’m not responsible for any damage done whatsoever to anyones iCloud account or iDevice. I Didn’t exploit any accounts while writing this, as well i didn’t even test it out (Hope it works lol). I merely observed and reported.
So this program may not work, although I suspect someone at apple should check this, or at least an iPhone programmer.
His password list is rather rudimentary: https://github.com/Pr0x13/iDict/blob/master/files/wordlist.txt
This is typical of GitHub projects, these are not polished and tested projects.
But I suspect that another hacker may take this work and further the hacking into something more useful (to the hackers) and in some time create a real hack….
And so now you have seen how the underworld writes code (indirectly).
I suspect in a few months we will see iPhone accounts being hacked in the news.
