yahoo story (from Reuters) it is likely all 2200 stores were likely affected but Home Depot itself has denied a specific attack, only that they are working with security firms to figure out what has happened.
“The retailer sought to reassure customers on Wednesday that they will not be held responsible for any possible fraudulent charges. It also asked them to closely monitor their accounts and said it will offer free identity-protection services, including credit monitoring, to any customers who may have been affected.”
also shares fell 2.4 % at the close NYSE.

The CEO Frank Blake addressed the potential breach, he did not confirm a breach just an investigation.
And mentioned that they are ready to activate by end of 2014 a chip debit/CC reading technology.
