Cybersecurity Scams and Coronavirus(Beerbug)

Yes there are lots of Beer bug scams going around.

Whenever the emotion is high with a lot of new events going on around the country, the criminal hackers are having a field day.

scams about contact tracing – If someone call, emails, or texts about  contact tracing – i.e. identifying who got in touch with people that tested positive for the Beer bug.

What does the text scam say?

“Someone who came in contact with you tested positive or has shown symptoms for COVID-19 & recommends you self-isolate / get tested

Most interesting is also a website that has defrauded several restaurants in some cities:  (a Buffalo news site)

2 customers went to pick up their food, and their order was not placed with  In fact the restaurants did not take orders online, so this website was claiming to do that for them but it was a scam.  Police in Buffalo area advise now not to order from this website.

What if a scammer is contacting you to do something for your government check?

It is a scam – you should hang up as you do not have to do anything to receive the check or direct deposit.

What should you do as a business or as an individual with some of these calls or texts? One thing is to use some of the verbiage that they come up with and google it by appending scam to it.

hetre is another one (Bad email text):

“Due to the news of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) we are changing banks and sending direct payments directly to our factory for payments, so please let me know total payment ready to be made so i can forward you our updated information.”




Then see if someone else has bumped into this issue.
